If You Use Microsoft Authenticator, Be Aware Of These Changes

What is the Microsoft Authenticator?
The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign into your accounts when you're using two-step verification. Two-step verification helps you to use your accounts more securely because passwords can be forgotten, stolen, or compromised.

If you are currently using the Microsoft Authenticator for multi-factor authentication, you may notice a change beginning on Monday, May 8th. This change will impact the method used to approve MFA challenges, and will affect the following:

• Applications that don't support "number matching" (e.g., Authenticator for Apple Watch), will no longer be able to approve your authentication.
• The Microsoft Authenticator application will no longer send an Approve/Deny "push", but, instead, will send a "number matching" challenge.

Currently, the Microsoft Authenticator smartphone application may send you a push notification that requires only an "Approve" (or "Deny") button click. Starting May 8, when you need to authenticate with Multi-Factor Authentication, the app will send you a "number matching" challenge. The application or website you are trying to access will provide you with a number—typically 2 numerical digits—and your smartphone application will ask you to input that number on your phone.

Once you input the number and click "Yes", your authentication will be complete.
